Consumers are in the Driver's Seat on the Road to Connected Health for All

Aug 08, 2016
Consumers are a major driver for personal connected health, as they are taking charge of their health and putting more demands on the healthcare system to offer services once reserved for retail companies like Amazon.  They are also generating lots of data that can be used by healthcare providers to enhance diagnosis and treatment.
  • Consumers are scooping up fitness and personal health tracking devices to take charge of their health and wellness, and connect to their providers, caregivers and social networks.
  • Individuals are using apps to track their diet and nutrition by scanning bar codes, tracking calories and joining social media groups to help reach personal health and lifestyle goals.
  • Patients with chronic conditions -- such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity -- are using remote monitoring devices and mobile apps to track key biometrics like blood sugar and heart rate, and securely share that data with their healthcare providers.
  • Health consumers expect routine interactions, such as scheduling an appointment with their doctor or ordering a prescription, to be automated, convenient and easy.
