Diabetes Self-Management Goes Digital

Aug 11, 2016
Diabetes self-management and training is a collaborative process through which people with, or at risk for, diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify their behavior and successfully self-manage the disease to improve health outcomes. Successful programs include several components: online diabetes education, healthy eating, insulin dose calculators, self-monitoring of blood glucose, physical exercise and medication adherence. Promising results of digital self-management are being demonstrated both in the US and developing countries. There are certainly challenges, such as, privacy and security of apps and devices, but overall the future of digital self-management is bright.
