Who are the Newsmakers in Digital Health?

These are the innovators who push the envelope to create new care models through technology. Those who create startups to experiment with change in traditional healthcare. Those who invest through venture funds, accelerators and incubators. Those providers who collaborate with startups to test new ideas.

Dr. Joe Kvedar of Partners HealthCare is one of the newsmakers. He leads Connected Health at this large health system, creating new models of care delivery to help better manage chronic conditions, maintain health and wellness, and improve adherence, engagement and clinical outcomes. He's also Program Chair for the Connected Health Conference, a member of the Personal Connected Health Alliance board and is generally considered a thought leader in the space through his books and blog. His recent TEDx Talk outlines how technology can close the gap between patients and providers.

Heather Cole-Lewis of Johnson & Johnson Health and Wellness Solutions is a leader in the application of behavioral science in the use of devices and apps. Behavior change is the key to the effectiveness of digital tools in health and wellness and she and her colleagues in the Society of Behavioral Medicine are leading the way.

James Madara, MD, current president of the American Medical Association (AMA), who has an aggressive innovation agenda for this traditional physician organization, not only developing their Innovation Network to connect physicians with new innovative companies but also developing mobile health app principles.

In the growing topic of patient generated health data (PGHD), there are leaders like Emily Mitchell from Accenture who lead the ONC project to create a white paper on the future of PGHD in medical care; and Drew Schiller, CEO of Validic, whose company has pioneered the integration of PGHD into the clinical workflow from multiple devices and apps.

Ashish Atreja, MD, Chief Innovation and Engagement Officer, Mount Sinai, who is the founder of NODE Health, the Network of Digital Medicine, which is promoting the development of evidence through a database of pilot studies and other initiatives. Ashish also he leads the Mt. Sinai App Lab.

Also, Reena Sangar, Head of Digital and Connected Health for Ipsos Healthcare, who has lead research into physician and consumer attitudes toward the adoption of connected health.
