Personal Health Gateway: Bluetooth Low Energy Manager

The Bluetooth LE protocol is a Continua supported transport for low-energy, low-bandwidth, and limited range applications.  The Personal Health Devices Interface standardizes around the IEEE 11073 Personal Health Device family of standards for health data representation and exchange between the sensor and the gateway.  While Bluetooth LE does not directly support IEEE 11073, it does support profiles and services with compatible data types so they can be transcoded into equivalent IEEE 11073 representation.

The primary deliverable of this project is source code, along with the associated build, validation, and regulatory artifacts that can be used to create software services (apps) for the current releases of both the iOS and Android platforms.  Key functionality includes Bluetooth LE manager , device connection, user notification, and authentication. Tests shall be created for the existing CODE for Healthcare testing framework.

The PCHAlliance has developed a DRAFT Request For Proposal to implement the Continua Design Guidelines Personal Health Devices Interface: Bluetooth LE Manager in a Personal Health Gateway. Sponsors are to needed to fund this development work.
